Betty’s Slow Cooker Pot Roast with Brown Gravy Recipe
In this video, Betty responds to a viewer request for a crock pot meal. Betty demonstrates how to use a crock pot to make a nifty pot roast meal–super tender roast beef, surrounded by potatoes, carrots, and onions–with a flavorful, velvety brown gravy. Ingredients: 1 1/2 pounds top round beef roast (I used Laura’s Lean Beef.) freshly ground black pepper, to cover roast on all sides 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil (I used peanut oil.) 3 medium to large-sized russet potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters (Any variety of potato will work.) 2 medium onions, peeled and cut into sixths (I used white onions.) 1/2 oz. small cellophane package of baby carrots (You may use any carrots, peeled and cut in pieces.) 10.5 oz. can beef broth 10.5 oz. can beef consomme 1/2 of a 6 oz. can of tomato paste (Use the whole can, if you like a more tomato-y flavor.) 1/2 cup water 3 tablespoon cornstarch Crack fresh peppercorns over all sides of your 1 1/2 pound top round roast, and rub it in. In a large, deep skillet, heat 1 1/2 tablespoons peanut oil. When hot, place the roast in the sizzling oil and brown it on all sides. Place the browned roast into a crock pot (slow cooker). Arrange the potato pieces around and on top of the roast. Then, place the cut onions on top of the potatoes. Finally, place the baby carrots (or carrot pieces) on top of the onions. Now, combine 10.5 oz. beef broth, 10.5 oz. beef consomme, and 1/2 of a 6 oz. can of tomato paste in a medium-sized bowl. Pour over the …

Looks Yummy. I used to cook Elk in the slow cooker. Then shredded it up and add Bar B Que sauce for sandwiches. My brother in law said it tasted like beef. I use to feed my nieces and nephews Crock Pot Elk. They did’nt taste the difference. To this day I never told them. That is what they ate when I baby sat those kids. Now their older, and I never told them. Thanks to the Crock Pot.

The way you present each ingredient, the measurments and the time it takes to prepare the meal is absolutely fantastic! You posess such flair and grace along with the hospitality you give to each viewer. I love how you arranged the meal on the platter along with the gravy you poured over the top of it. What a wonderful presentation and to think, you don’t even have your own show yet.

Hi Betty,
You are now officially my favorite YouTube cook to watch! I love how you take the time to explain all the ingredients, including the measurements. I also like how you show us the preparation and explain it well too.
P.S. Tell your hubby he does a great job with the camera

@TheCheffEddie Hi Eddie,
We just use a small digital camera that shoots still pictures, as well as videos. It is a Canon Powershot S5 IS. We’ve had it for a long time, so I’m not sure this model is still being made. Rick, my husband, does the camera work. He doen’t use a tripod, and the noise of the kitchen and my voice is just what is picked up by the camera. Rick has gotten really good at zooming in on the food when it is appropriate. If you need more info, send me a PM; Rick can answer.–B

Hi,
I love the way you present your vids. I would like to know what camera and recording/editing system you use. The way you show the work area and not bounce allover the place is perfect. Do you record voice at the time you make the dish or dub it in later?
So many questions and so little time.
I look forward to hearing from you or send me to someone else that I can ask questions to?

or a Cook’s Essentials 5 1/2 qt Low pressure cooker (2hrs).
I can’t wait all day for such a tasty treat. Thanks.

@murphygtm The crock pt “pot roast” I made was perfect. Thankyou

@shehed11 Thanks for your compliments! If you want to do a roast without a crock pot, you need a covered ovenproof pan–or you can cover it with aluminum foil. Just season the roast with salt or meat tenderizer, and place it in a covered ovenproof dish or pan at 350 for about 3 to 4 hours, depending on the size of roast. You can check on it occasionally to see how it is progressing, and then remove when done. Then you can make delicious gravy from the juices!
